I dont live in the USA, but check on the schwinn website to find out if walmart is an authorized dealer. If they are then it should be ok but if they are not try find out if the bike comes with a warrenty, so if you are not happy with the bike you can get a cash refund.
no i used to have one they are pretty good
They’re OK for putzing around the neighborhood, but won’t stand up to any serious riding. You’ll be at a significant disadvantage if you take one on any group rides.
Yes very poorly put together and no service. NO correct fitting for the rider which is VERY important.
BUY FROM A KNOWLEDGEABLE bike shop! You will be much better off! I have done both.
Do not buy from a department store!
Make sure the bike shop you buy from does basic adjustments for life or a reasonable time frame.
Have a knowledgeable cyclist fit you.Trek still makes their better bikes in the U.S.A. so you are supporting yourself/family/friends VS China/Taiwan.
A used bike would be where you will get your best buy.
Good luck and keep riding!
Think about getting insurance on your bike, I have it on all mine and it is cheap through my car and renters insurance company. Also keep in mind where you will keep the bike for safety and out of the weather. Indoors is by FAR the best!
There are many other great American manufactures but unless you buy used it will be more $ for you but if you plan to ride it alot and or keep it for a long time it is worth it. Try to stay away from aluminum it rides horrendously bad.
Better bike shops will make sure you get a good fit/correct size for you which is EXTREMELY important for your enjoyment and keeping you injury free. Try to get a sales person or manager that is a rider and knows correct bike fit. Some bike shops especially Performance higher a lot of people that do not know a bike from a rock. I know because I used to work for them as a manager and a part time sales/service employee. Performance pay is very low and due to this it is hard for them to get and keep wise, knowledgeable cyclist.
And yes Wal-mart has supported China over the U.S. multiple times in court! I also feel Wal-Mart is evil, for this and putting smaller better customer service and knowledge business out of business.
But riding a cheap bike that fits is better than not riding at all!!
Good luck!
You are still better off buying from Performance bike than any wal mart I know of! Either way you get what you pay for Low end @ performance bike is still better than anything High end from Wally world! I also work @ Perform. and yes the cycling industry tends to be the lowest paying one out there however I am not one of those lowest paid employees out there who does know the difference between a rock and a good bike build. We do exist at Performance and there are those that are hired who know little so if you shop there then ask for "experience" and you generally get it out of someone. The gene pool pickins’ for anyone qualified in cycling is real shallow!
I can answer that better once I know what the Gruppo is…..Shimano sora, tiagra? You get what you pay for and those Walmart/Kmart road bicycles are junk. I own that GMC denali road bike they sell as well as a "real" road bicycle…Felt F85. Night and day difference. Save up your money…(around $1,000.00) and buy a quality bike shop ride.
Sorry, they’re junk. "One size fits all " should be a clue.
the worse, aluminium is only strong when its heat treated, walmart bikes dont go trhough hesat treating, you’ll probably bend your frame by kiccking it, not good, go to your bike shop, they are more expensive, but your payting for quality, quality riding, longer time without it breaking, and you get all sorts of warranties on frame and other parts.
please dont buy walmart bikes, they are death traps…
yes they stink go to a bike shop and get a good bike
Remember, WallyWorld doesn’t post those low prices by cutting their profit margin; they post the low prices by offering chintzy products at a normal mark-up.
Ive probably purchased 7 or 8 of the schwinn bikes from walmart over the last 5 years for my children. the low price was the appealing aspect of the purchase…..but…..ive learned my lesson. THE SCHWINN BIKES FROM WALMART ARE JUNK. the components are made with many plastic pieces which are design to fail. the derailures, the pedals, the brakes, and the overly soft aluminum rims will all need to be repaired or replaced…..
during the first year after purchase you can call the 1-800 number on the bike id tag to get free replacement parts…..but even with this option the bikes need continuous repair…not just adjustments, but major repair….if you want to buy a bike that you would actually intend to use do not buy a schwinn bike from wall mart.
You guys are mostly nuts. A bike is a bike. From what i have seen, only with Trek min you, but its the best bike ive ever owne and i have had more than one of them, that is for sure… One years most expensive model is the next years second most, then the second most is the next year the third cheapest and the third cheapest is the next years fourth cheapest… as the technology, no good bike company (Schwinn included, i am sure) just drops the technology down one step. There are good reviews for schwinn all over the internet… but then again, i never, as a child had a bike that cost more than fifty bucks or so, i am sure…. and they were all fine… that is how people learn how to fix stuff themselves…. you may need to fix it a little at home, but it will get you around…
You people talking about cheap bikes are the same people who dont buy Ford, Dodge, or Chevy because you cant even change your oil, and would rather spend an extra 30 K on a Mercedes then get your hands dirty….
Wish i had your money to waste…. its all i am saying… i am speaking out of jealousy…
Tony
Tony, I like your style.
For the kind of biking the average person does, getting a dept store bike with decent reviews isn’t a bad thing. Not everyone has $400+ to spend on a bike to cruise around on paved trails and the occasional dirt. I used to do a lot of off-roading on a sub-$400 bike. I’m not hardcore, totally recreational and the bike did fine. If you are serious about your sport, then buy the best quality you can afford from a LBS. If you’re a typical Jack or Jill…make an informed purchase at a price you can afford and like Tony said, learn to fix your parts yourself.
