As the economy is continuing to plunge into a deeper recession I believe there is a place for one more post about the right choice to make when buying a bicycle or a road bicycle that wills feet to your needs and your real budget. As I wrote in my previous post about cheap bicycle, at the end it is all about what we really need and what we can really afford.

There are prices and designs for the fanatics that money is not an issue for them even if they have no money, and there are people like me that would love to buy the ultimate road bicycle but have to settle for a low budget one.
Basically there are 3 options for you to buy relatively cheap road bicycle:
1 – Buying a new bike in a retail store that specializes in selling cheap models or cheap brands
2 – Buy a used bike in a shop that deals with repaired bikes or second hand bicycle, maybe your local bike mechanic can help you with that as well.
3 – Use the internet to find a cheap road bicycle seller, used, new or parts to build a unique model for you

How to Buy a Road Bike -- powered by ehow

Buying a new bike in a retail store
The first thing you need to do if you are going to buy a new road bike or any other kind is to seek out a good, local bike dealer. As the blogger on cheaproadbikes.net wrote

"The staff really need to take an interest in you and your cycling goals and they’ll do this by asking a lot of relevant questions. If this is not the case take your business elsewhere. The goal here is to build a good two way relationship between yourself and the bike dealer. A good bike dealer will want your business and you’ll want to be rest assured that you’re getting a good deal and that there’s somewhere to take your bike for those all important repairs."

Don't settle for a cheaper deal if you are not satisfied and confident about the service you will get in the future. Remember that a serious road bike can range from 600$ up to 6000$.

Buying a used road bicycle
When buying a used bike, it is important to know what you are looking for and from whom to buy. You have to know the material commonly used to build the different parts of the bikes and the different types of tires.
"When you are buying used road bikes from used Cannondale sale or used Trek sale, do check the condition of the bike first." Rights the fixiebikesforsale.org blogger, " be sure that the bike is properly maintained. Some people end up buying a bike that looks good but actually doesn’t work as well... Do buy from a friend if you have a chance as they are more trustworthy… Do your homework before you actually look for sellers."

Be alert about the time you spend on your research because you can lose precious time that could be saved for work, family or other things you need and love doing.

Cheap road bicycle on the internet
Well, there are so many options on the internet but even so there are some things you can do to assure your purchase. First of all try do find a seller that is near you so you can check the bike before you pay for it. If you are an e-bay lover than you have an ocean of deals and sellers, the same goes to Amazon.com, but you can find some small sites that can give you a good service or advice before buying from them.

Do your homework about your needs and than about what is the best road bicycle that fits your needs and budget. After you do that go on and have a great time riding and smiling down the road.

Once again I am writing about a subject that involves us all – the balance between our desire for a good and descent bike and the reality of our economy. Some of us may have to compromise for a 150-300$ bike and be happy with it and others will be very sad with their 3000$ mountain bike, road bike or low-rider bike. At the end it is all about what we really need and what we can really afford.

If you are a professional rider your needs and budget have to be higher than the average amateur rider, though there are some amateurs that can buy bicycles with no proportion to their real needs. So think it over it not so hard to be honest with yourself and decide what you really need and what you can really afford.

In the other hand buying cheap bicycles also can be tricky, as the "ausi" site bikeexchange explains:

"It may seem like a good way of saving a little cash, but there are risks involved in buying a cheap bicycle that you need to take into account before laying down your money... The first thing you should do is always to do what research you can. Get the make and model of your proposed cheap bicycle, and go to the website of a reputable bicycle seller. Check to see what you can about the bicycle – who makes it, how much is it usually, is it still in production, and so on. Only if you like the answers you get to this sort of question should you even consider buying the bicycle cheaply."

Here are some points to think about when you buy cheap bicycles:
• Buy what you intend to use it for. Buying a professional bicycle for daily commute isn't the smartest idea
• Beware the word "cheap". When it comes to bicycles, "you get what you pay for"
• The better your bike the more attractive it is for thieves
• Don't forget the most important part of a bike: The lock(s). I recommend using two locks: one chain to wrap
around a tree/post and another chain to secure the wheels
• If you don't use it daily look for a rent a bike service in your hometown
• make sure that your good deal doesn't turn out to be too good to be true
• when you buy Cheap New Bicycles buy one from a specialist seller, usually larger sporting goods chains are
less good to buy from, especially if located in a mall
• Beware of bikes sold with sub-standard parts
• If you must a bike with sub-standard parts take it to a good mechanic and upgrade them as soon as you can
• Buy a cheap bicycle from a manufacturer you have no trouble sourcing parts later on

When buying a second hand bicycle you can find a really good deal for a decent bike but you must be alert and make a good research before you make the final purchase. once again I want to quote the bikeexchange site:

"When buying a second hand bicycle ask a lot of questions: why are they selling it, what brand is it, what is the availability of parts should it need repairs, when was it last serviced, and so on. If the seller gets touchy about this, apologise, but point out that you don't know them and they don't know you, and that a few questions now can prevent problems for both of you further down the line."

I hope this post will help you to do the right choice for your needs and budget – good hunting and god speed.

The times are harsh, economically, so everyone looks for the cheapest solution for everything. We are looking for a cheap house, car, clothes or pizza but as reality shoes "Good" and "Cheap" used together is an oxymoron there is no such animal. Maybe in future economy and society things will be different but till then a cheap mountain bicycle are ok for riding around the neighborhood, but it won't hold up to many jumps. You would be lucky to survive one downhill ride on a $300 bike.

cheap mountain bicycle are ok for riding around the neighborhood

If you are an occasional biker who assumes every mountain bike are the same, you’re in for a surprise every hill or downhill track is different and needs a good strong structure to hold the bumps and rough terrain.
If you are looking for a bike that is sturdy and fits into a 300$ budget, you might get lucky and find a used bike for $300 to $500 dollars but even then you would have to watch closely and be patient, most likely a used bike have been used up and need repairs so it might be better for you to save up your money and purchase a good bike when you have enough.

As Rhea Carlyn explains in her post published on livestrong.com:

"Cheap is a relative word but in this case: assume it means the least expensive bike that is the highest quality within those prices limits... Patented brakes and gear systems also add to the greatness and expense of many bikes. Consider what, of these options, is important and eliminate what isn't from your criteria. This brings the price down. "

Consider your needs

If you need your bike for commuting or for pleasure road rides, you don't need to purchase an expensive bicycle at all. You can find your way on a cheap mountain bicycle, used or new. In second thought you can find a good low cost commute bike or a simple single speed bicycle or a used low rider for a "cooler" ride. There are some good brands that can feet to a low budget purchase and once again I quote Carlyn's suggestions:

"Kawaski, Polaris and Schwinn all produce inexpensive, well-made mountain bikes. These bikes are for beginner and Intermediate Mountain bikers of all ages. Mongoose also makes great mountain bikes that are more expensive but still below average in price; about $375. Raleigh, Novara and Marin are brands of mountain bikes with excellent reputations and are available for under $480. These brands are available at a variety of retailers to include Walmart, REI, Target and many local bike shops."

You can find more useful information all around the net but if you are a bit lazy you can look here: Ebay, Calibex, Pronto.com, Nextag, craigslist

Good luck and a happy ride to you all.

Used mountain bikes

Today in the current financial situation you can find awesome deals on used mountain bikes and especially here at mountain bikes review, its unbelievable what kind of bikes can you buy and for such a ridicules price. I guess its because some people truly need money and that’s why they are selling their almost brand new, well equipped mountain bikes and that’s your chance to get yourself one of those.

Some of the things you need to pay attention to and ask yourself or the seller when buying used mountain bikes are how often did the previous owner ride the bikes and where and whether they were the only rider or did many people rode it. You can also ask if the bikes were maintained properly and in what frequency.

When you take a look on the mountain bikes make sure you are checking if the chain rings and sprocket teeth sharp or rounded – if they are still rounded you got yourself a great deal. Sharp teeth usually mean that these bikes are worn out but you can mention it to the seller and sometimes you’ll get such a great price that it will be cheaper to buy new ones and replace the old. Another important thing to look at is are the wheels straight or not, again if you pay attention to it you will get a discount that will help you buy new wheels. Also be sure to ask about the gears and how quick can you change them or is it hard to change the gears and do they slip when you press the pedals too hard? The last thing I usually look for is cracks in the frame at the bottom or next to the head tube area – these parts take most of the action and they must be able to hold it.

Because of all these questions my favorite place to shop for used mountain bikes is eBay, with eBay I know that they are looking out for me and I can just put my energy in finding the right bikes for the best price.

looking for cheap mountain bikes for sale

Okay, I always come up with a hobby every summer, like the last summer, I liked RC gas cars, but I realized it's so much expensive. Now, my hobby is on mountain bikes. Where can I find mountain bikes in the Philippines that are cheap (about, let's say, P2000-P3000?) but they are in good hands. And if you know someone also that has a mountain bike that's much for dirt and things like that (in the Philippines) that would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
