What hardtail mountain bike is better... raleigh or trek's?

More specifically does anyone know which is better between the Trek 4500 and the Mojave 8.0?

Found this bike on craigslist, guy wants for it, said he paid 5 for it last August. He says everything works fine, I'm going to look at it and maybe buy it later. Anybody know?

I got a Trek 8000 Police bike in a government auction. The only thing it needs is new tires and tubes. Tire size is 26 x 2.1 and I can get them at Wal-Mart but the tubes are unlike anything I've seen before. The valve stem is half the size of a regular stem and it has some sort of thing blocking where the air goes in. Wal-Mart only had the regular tubes so should I just drill the hole in the wheel to fit a regular tube or look elsewhere?

I am putting road tires on this bike, As I plan on riding on pavement and bike paths exclusively...I figured a 16 is better for control + stability (As in off road riding)...While a 18 inch would be a little better for the path...I plan on only road riding, So I think I should go for a 18.....Any advices ????

If you have a Trek 7100 can you change it to a mountain bike by just purchasing different components.

Wondering if the Trek 3700 is worth the money. Any suggestions?
The bike is for a young friend. He and his buddies are maniacs. Is there a bike for under 0 that's more suitable? Or, does he have to save and spend more?

It broke and I can not find any for sale with that name. Is that a generic name. I found 6 different altus derailleurs but none with the A20 on it.
What can I do besides consult with a bike shop. I was hoping to order the part online and save a trip the bike shop.

What is the difference between the 3900 and 3700 Trek mountain bikes, besides the slight difference in price? Is it worth it to pay for the 3900?

I was just thinking.. I have a trek 4300 i'm trying to sell but what if I just modified it for racing? How would I do that? Is it possible?

But I noticed that the valve is not the typical one that Im used to seeing. It is much smaller and has some type of extra piece on it.

How can I pump these tires up?

I have an option to buy a 10 year old but well cared for cromoly framed Marin mtb with upgraded wheels and brakes and front suspension, or a brand new lower end Trek also hardtail but aluminum frame. There is also a Devinci hardtail aluminum frame for about 100 dollars more. Which should I choose?

The Diamondback Topanga is selling for 9 at Sports Authority. It comes with disc breaks and other stuff. However, I read on this site that Diamondback bikes are cheap because they use cheap components and are not very durable. I went to my local bike shop and they showed me a
Trek 4500 for 0 (no disc brakes). He told me this model was an entry level model. I want to purchase a good durable bike. Is paying the extra 0 worth it?

I only ride on old railroad trails for long distance, exercise and enjoyment. My mountain bike has some nice features of being light weight and durable....I have not been able to find reviews for comfort bikes so I could find a bike that would be nice to ride.
