As cyclo cross bikes are lighter and more aerodynamic than mountain bikes, why don't they get used more in off road events? Other than no suspension, what is to stop me using one in place of a mountain bike in a duathlon event (run, cycle, run)

Nothing really. So long as you are happy controlling the bike over the terrain then go for it (it should go cross country – I used to ride racers cross country just for fun)

it all depends on how technical the course is. If it’s a proper off-road route then a cyclosross bike will suffer and likely be slower.

  3. youd be better off on the grass and hardpack trail sections but as long as youre comfortable in the muddy and rougher sections, go for it.
