How do I get started into mountain bike racing?
I am 14 years old and have ridden mtn for a while. I live in NJ and was looking to get into serious racing. How do I start?

I’ve been riding bikes since I was around your age and just started getting into racing this summer. I was surprised how easy it was to do.
Most races have pre-registration that gets you a discount and extra raffle prizes, plus pre-race info. The first race I did my family came to watch and I didn’t really know anybody, but I ended up making a ton of friends from it. Most mountain bikers are pretty relaxed and are very helpful. At a few races I’ve even gotten free bike maintenance from people and other help.
Just make sure your bike is tuned up, you have water with you (bottles or backpack depending on the length of the race), and you have a helmet. Racing is a ton of fun even if you don’t win.
I have the same situation as you I’m 14, and really want to get into mtb racing this spring. Go to your local bike shop and ask if there are any races in the area. There will probably be some mountain bike racing employes. Try to make friends with them because in new jersey and PA(where I live) there aren’t too many races. So try to get rides from them to the races. Good luck and I hope to see you in the races.
