i have a Mongoose mountain bike. i have the origional brakes with the two brake pads on both sides on the front and back tires. i want disk brakes now. do you know how much and where i could get them?

    well, you need to go out and buy some new rims too. and disc brakes range in price from about $100 to wayy too much

    You can probably get a pair of Avid mechanical disc brakes for about a hundred dollars. However, that’s not the only expense. You also need new wheels that will accept the disc rotors. Those will run you anywhere from $200 on up. You will also have to re-cable the brakes, which means cables AND housing. Is your bike worth spending $300+ on, or would you be money ahead getting a new bike? I love disc brakes, but installing them doesn’t always make $en$e.

    If you are unhappy with the braking, sometimes just changing to a better pad will do the trick. You can upgrade the V-Brake calipers and/or levers, too, for a lot less than $300.
