Best information and tips about mountain bike magazine, bike tours, mountain bike tires and mountain bike tours
But I noticed that the valve is not the typical one that Im used to seeing. It is much smaller and has some type of extra piece on it.
How can I pump these tires up?

It is called a Presta valve. You can pick up an adapter at a bike shop for a dollar. You can also buy a bicycle pump that wil fit a Presta and the standard Shrader valve. I always carry an adapter with just in case my pump fails. Here is how you use a Presta valve with an adapter.
