Mongoose and Huffy mountain bike quality?
I've heard complaints (on internet reviews) that ever since Huffy bought out Mongoose, the Mongoose bikes have not been as good quality as before. Is this true?

yes, they are pretty crappy…
you are better off going to a real bike shop and spending a little more on a bike that is not mass produced…
check out KHS, Trek, and Specialized
I always heard mongoose is better, so thats what I would go with
Well, I don’t know for sure, but I used to assemble bikes at a major chain store, and Did Mongoose, Huffy, Roadmaster, etc. mainly cheaper brands. The main thing I noticed that made them cheap was the crappy gears. Mongoose had a higher end line of mountain bikes that had lighter frames and better gears, and I imagine that Huffy has eliminated the good gears and put some crappy ones on them. But like I said, this is just speculation on my part, an educated guess.
It probably is true. I bought a mongoose nx-7 10 years ago. It had very good parts on it, All LX components, shimano rims, shimano pedals, and a Rock Shox fork. I also have a Cannondale Jekyl, Cannondale Scalpel, and a Cannondale Gemini. If I want to go on a comfortable ride, I ride the Mongoose.
They are both horrible. But if Huffy and Mongoose are your only two choices, go with the Mongoose. Ride it a few times then go test ride a real bike and see what you are missing.
Mongoose USED to make horrible bikes, right after they were bought out by Pacific, but I am about to buy an Otero from Performance Bike. Back in ’99 I had heard that the frames were cracking for no reason, and didn’t believe it until I met a guy at the West Virginia Fat Tire Festival who had JUST had his frame replaced, and he was nervous about his current one but could not afford to just run out and buy a new one. Everyone ooh’d and ah’d over the sweet paint job, but he said not to buy one. So their reputation comes from their old bikes being bad and from the fact that they also sell real low end bikes in department stores. It’s now 2009 I love the new Otero Super, it gets good reviews, and it is the best value for a dualie under $700.
