I'm looking to buy a mountain bike to take along some hiking trips, I'd also like for it to be something I could ride around town to run errands, that sort of thing. The price range is anywhere under 0.00. So, basically: COMFORTABLE and AFFORDABLE

Visit your local bike shop and look at the comfort/pathway bikes. A mountain bike is a pain to ride around town. A c/p bike will be more comfortable and liter and you can ride trails and roads with ease.
