So there's a bike sale for last year's models I could save 0 bucks of off a 0 mountain bike. My wife said it's too expensive still and that I shouldn't buy it and look for a used one on craigslist for way less money. I really like this one and i'm saving a good chunk of change. What would you do?
she said i should also buy a 100 dollar bike at walmart
08 trek 6500. Want to take it to the trails couple times a month

You should provide alittle more information on what you will be using the bike for in the futre. Assuming you are a competitive player who uses a mountain bike on various trails monthly then a 750 dollar bike may be in your range. However, if you are new to mountain biking or are just purchasing it to ride on the road then that 100 dollar bike from walmart is not looking to bad for you. In these economic times, I feel if you did a little searching however on the internet you will be able to find someone need cash bad and selling a pretty nice bike for half off the typical price in good shape. My advise if you are an intermediate rider, look on the internet for deals. If you are a begineer or novice, that 100 dollar bike from walmart would be a good starting position to see if you actually enjoy riding and want to pursue it further in the future.
Walmart doesn’t have very good bikes. Depending on the reputation of the brand and store that you would like to buy, it would probably be a better idea to do it now.
Used bikes can have flaws,aren’t pointed out by the seller…

DO NOT BUY THE WM BIKE….you’ll regret that purchase in about 6 months if it eve takes that long! But then again, you don’t necessarily need a $600 bike either….DicksSportingGoods has some good brand name bikes and most bike shops have great bikes @ the 200-350 range. Buy what you need the bike for. If you’re die hard racer, it may make sense to spend a little money, but if you’re a very casual rider, may not make sense. If you want to save even a little more $$$ AND keep the wife happy (this is what I did) buy 2 bikes @ once, one for you & one for her, and ride together. The bike shop owner gave us a KILLER deal and it’s something we enjoy doing together. Just a thought. Good luck!
its a good time to buy if you have money preferrable other peoples stuff cause alot of people are in hard times and looking to sell stuff to get money . i bet you, you could get a better bike for less money. you could always trade you wife for a bike .
Your wife is WRONG about the Wal mart bike! Stay away from "X-mart " crap! Buy right the first time and you will have a bike that you actually want to ride! Sure you might be spending a bit more but you will have a better ride and you will make more money later… besides if you have already saved it once you may never save it again and as long as you can afford it then do it. You will regret it later on if you dont do it now! If you can save $ while it is on sale now then DO IT! Sure go ahead and wait and then when the sale is over and you didnt buy that bike, we can all form a line behind you when you decide to invite all of us to your own "ass kickin’ party
I can advise you on buying the Trek 6500 — buy the left over ’08 before it is gone. The left over ’09′s next year will be 25% higher priced.
As for your larger problem, getting along with your wife. Dude you are on your own. I have been married 30 years and my wife fully supports my bicycle wants as long as it doesn’t interfere with life’s basic needs.
i would buy it anyway then buy your wife a nice gift with the money you just saved. my wife say’s i spend to much on bikes also but i buy them anyway i once paid 18 hundred on a bike she was mad but 10 years later we are still married so buy it and get her a gift she will get over it they Always do good luck to you.
