Right now I have a Trek 4300 and the frame is a bit small and I would like to upgrade. I have been riding for 1.5 seasons now and have seen where having full suspension could help but I recognize how it can take away some power. I would like a bike that could tackle anything from regular mud singletrack to several rockbeds in a row. What do you feel is better full suspension or hardtail?

Modern full-suspension mountain bikes are nearly always better off-road than a hardtail. Unless you’re a XC racer and weight and efficiency are your primary concerns, you wont even notice the amount of energy you lose from the suspension and the extra traction you get will blow you away coming from a hardtail. I very very rarely even ride my hardtail offroad anymore, it’s pretty much just a commuter bike now.
that all depends on the type of riding you do if all you do is ride bike paths and smooth rail trial’s then a hard tail will be just fine.now if you like something anything Technical i meal with rock’s and tree root’s and such a full suspension would be best go to a bike shop(not walmart or target) and look around ask them that would be your best bet.
