I have decided it's time to upgrade the bike i ride. I go riding in the forest near my home, and often try some small jumps, but also use it for cycling from place to place. However i only have a small budget (under £500) so i'm just asking for advice, or any bargains that you may have stumbled across lately. Any links to websites etc. or bike names would be much appreciated.

My budget was 0 dollars and I was wondering if that is a good price, or should I be spending more. I found a Hardtail Mountain bike I liked and it was 300 dollars. What do you think of it?

I know you would probably say, just get a bike and get out riding! But it would be so much more fun to get into the sports with some sort of club or society, plus I can really do with some advice in choosing my first mountain bike on a budget.
