i just like to tinker with the bike, its the fastest it can go right now and i use a local bike trail and in the city it is easier to manage and a lot more responsive than any other type of bike.. people on mountain bikes are surprised i can keep up with them unless they really try. biggest gear i can fit on front, smallest cog on back, no pegs. i have a junked mtb, bent rims, brake cables are shot so im just seeing if any of the parts are useable. i would only make it a 6 speed though using the biggest of the front gears, and all the rear for more top end speed.

I like to bike on Bike paths and on Side streets for fitness. Maybe 50-70 miles a week. I weigh 210, So I figure mountain bikes would be more durable. I usually buy Mountain bikes for 0 or so from places like Walmart or K-mart. That being said I am looking for a better Quality bike, Somewhere between 200-350. I am most concerned about safety and durability....Should I buy a High quality Used bike from E-bay,,,,I high end Model from a Walmart,,,Or should I go to a Bike shop and buy a Entry level Bike???...I wen't to Bert's bikes in Tonawanda NY and they recomended a Trek-820 for 329.99 with free lifetime service.. Sounded pretty good....So I figured I would ask the Smart riders of Yahoo Answers for some Good Advices...Thanks!!!!

I will be moving to Bristol (UK) and I understand it's quite hilly so I want a mountain bike and since I won't have a car, I will use it to transport things around and don't want to just use a backpack. But I never see baskets on mountain bikes, panniers occasionally. I only see baskets on non-mountain bikes. When I was in Holland, I didn't see baskets on mountain bikes (though Holland barely has any hills so mountain bikes aren't necessary). Is it dangerous to put a basket on a mountain bike? Like it interferes with the gears or something? Thanks

My husband and I would like to buy entry level mountain bikes. Hubby is 6ft3 and I'm 5ft1 so both of us need to consider frame size and would like to try before we buy. Do bike shops do second hand? As cyclo cross bikes are lighter and more aerodynamic than mountain bikes, why don't they get used more in off road events? Other than no suspension, what is to stop me using one in place of a mountain bike in a duathlon event (run, cycle, run)

My partner and I are about to buy mountain bikes but we won't be riding them cross country as we will have our little one with us most of the time, so we need to know the good brands for riding on flat surfaces, grass and dirt roads, not cross country.

We have a Halfords nearby and we were considering looking there but someone else suggested we find the best brand then shop around for a good second hand bike.

Any ideas?

Okay, I always come up with a hobby every summer, like the last summer, I liked RC gas cars, but I realized it's so much expensive. Now, my hobby is on mountain bikes. Where can I find mountain bikes in the Philippines that are cheap (about, let's say, P2000-P3000?) but they are in good hands.
