What’s the reputation like for Schwinn bikes?

I'd always heard they were a good brand, but you dont see many "into it" bikers riding them. im thinking about getting into biking and im looking to buy a trek 7000 or something else 0 or less and this schwinn caught my eye for 0. http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_4/602-7768841-7960653?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B000KZ1G7Q

are schwinns decent bikes if im going to be riding with friends that are fairly into cycling and most have +0 bikes or am i going to get burned bad and laughed at for riding a schwinn?

What is a good, but cheap beginners mountain bike?

I cannot spend more than 300 dollars. I dont want one of those cheap bikes you get from wal-mart or target. I was looking at the diamondback bikes but i need more ideas. Im going to be riding in dirty trails so it doesnt have to be super advanced or expensive.

I’m looking to purchase a hardtail bike but have a budget of $200, what would you guys recomended?

I'm 5,11 and weight 240. I saw a bike at Target called the Schwinn Ranger that I really like, but don't know if this is for me.

What are good places to get new but cheap mountain bikes?

I need a bike not more than 0. Apart from online places where can i browse for one? I recently went to Dick's Sporting Goods and the prices are very high. Are walmart/target brands any good?
