What is the average frame size for a woman. I need a bike for my girlfriend who is 5'3. Is a 19" frame to big?

yes the 19" is way too big. i’m 5’3" and ride a 13" jamis dakar (full suspension bike). i can be seated and still have my feet on the ground. also i have tons of clearance when I’m standing over the bike. both these things are very important when sizing a bike. i also fit on the 15" bike but the 13" is perfect.
i’m not sure but if i had to guess i would say the avg. bike size for a woman is between a small and med (13"-17") the latter being for a taller woman. but i think your girlfriend would be around the same size bike at me between 13 & 15"

you should definately go into a bike shop for that one. a road bike has to be adjusted based on several things not just weight or height.
Too big, dear. I’m 5’5" but I use a 14-inch Avalanche GT and it’s just right. Women around that height should go for 13-15-inch frames.
