Adult MTBs generally come it sizes from 13" to 22" pretty much in 1" increments. Some brands come in 1/2" sizes like 16.5, 17.5 etc. Yet a few brands may come in xs, s, m, L, xL. If you’re looking at quality bikes they will have a size for you.
I ride a 16.5 Giant.
Depends how much yo want to spend , yo can get bikes made to suit you sir , available on the internet here in good old blighty (probably inported from china) or hand built try Holdsworthy cycles and if he is still around Ken Royal cycles.
Yes. Generally bike frames of all types traditionally came in inch sizes. You could get a 19" frame, a 20" frame, a 21" frame etc etc etc.
Sizes then became in units called centimetres although they would perhaps be in differences of 2 or 3 cm per size.
Then sizes became small medium and large with perhaps an extra small and an extra large in there somewhere.
So, with inches and centimetres a frame will be very close to the size that is good for you and with seat post alterations and handlebar stem selection, a bike could be a near perfect thing.
With only three or so sizes things need a little more thought. I have bought specialist bikes with only one size available but
the modern design coupled with the manufacturers fitting service have resulted in a close to, if not perfect fit.
Of course, if you had a frame made for you then it would fit perfectly.
Yes. Only low quality cheap bikes comes in a one size fits all.
Cheap Dual sus MTB,s come in 17" frame size only, but the more you pay, the more choice you have, up to about 21/22".
Look at http://www.raleigh.co.uk and other supplier web sites, they will all have a size guide.
If you are going off-road with it, a small frame is better than a big frame.
