What’s the best Mountain bike to buy for mostly road use but sometimes trail?

I'm looking to spend no more than £800 really but would pay more for the right bike. The area we live in is very hilly so great gear range is a must.

Was looking at hybrid bikes as most of my rides are on the roads but also wanted to be able to have the option of off road as well!

    A hybid is a good option – though it has drawbacks. A hybrid or a mountan bike Is likely to have suspension. This means that when you’re going up hill you won’t be able to get out of the saddle without losing all your power into the suspension.

    If you’re mostly cycling on hilly roads get a flat bar racer. Most of these have 24 or 27 gears giving you a great range. Someone is cycling around on my lovely 3 week old Giant FCR 300 that had it’s lock cut with a bolt cutter. Learn my lesson whatever you do decide!

    Look for a comfort mountain bike, it will have universal tread tires good for the road and trails. It will be a little liter then a mountain bike but will have the same gearing.

    Bianchi Aspid Sx and Fx are the best mountain bikes so far,
    you can also get Bianchi Meta.

    A hybrid with front shocks will be comfortable on roads and work light trails fine. A hybrid’s gearing should be at or near that of a mtb.

    Sounds like Bob was talking about a single suspension mtb with road tires. That would be ok, but not quite as good for paved surface riding as a hybrid.But with knobby tires, better for rough trails.
