I think the risk level is too high, and with the nature of downhill courses, spectator value is rather limited for something like the Olympics.
You’re more likely to see dual slalom or 4-cross show up in the games in the future. I really think this will happen…..bmx made it and the reception has been good. People love the slalom skiing in the winter Olympics, and transferring that to two wheels in the summer is a natural match. I don’t see downhill ever making it, though…but at least we can still watch dh races and vids without that irritating television commentary, eh!
)
I also want to see boomerangs make it into the Olympics someday. They almost got accepted for the 2000 games. Talk about spectator-fascinating and accepted worldwide. I don’t understand why things such as badminton and shuffling are in the Olympics but boomerangs were rejected. Crazy world. lol
I’m pretty sure I was watching the womens downhill today.
I can see no reason why not,it is a very demanding sport/past-time,i used to cyclo cross and cycle speedway myself and know what you mean,it has possibly been overlooked.If enough people lobby for it,s inclusion in the next games it should take off.
… because there are lots of sports and disciplines within sports that are not in the olympics. There isn’t time to do them all.
As it happens if the 1km track race had not been bumped out of the way to make way for BMX there would be a very good chance that Chris Hoy would have won another gold medal with that discipline being his previous speciality.
Probably because it’s such an insane sport with all of the crazy jumps and tricks, that the olympics can’t handle its awesomeness
